Coconut Pecan Frosting

This coconut and pecan frosting is great on many cakes, not the least of which is German chocolate cake.

  • 1 cup evaporated milk

  • 1 cup white sugar

  • 3 large egg yolks

  • ½ cup unsalted butter

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 ½ cups flaked coconut

  • 1 cup chopped pecans


Directions

  1. Combine milk, sugar, egg yolks, butter, and vanilla in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring frequently, until thickened, 10 to 15 minutes.

  2. Remove from the heat and stir in coconut and pecans. Let stand, stirring occasionally, for 30 to 45 minutes before using.
